The UN, Delivering as One in Namibia, uses expertise to champion and support interventions aimed at addressing economic and social inequalities thus contributing to prosperity, dignity, peace and full realization of human rights.
The United Nations (UN) System in Namibia has designed a website with the intention to disseminate tothe public at large information on its structure, mandate and programs. The UN is present in the countrywith programme and/or funding agencies such as the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS(UNAIDS), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA), the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),the United Nations Volunteers (UNV), the World Food Programme (WFP) and with specialised agenciessuch as the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM),the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)and the World Health Organisation (WHO).The site provides information on each agency, their individual mandates and programmes as well as onthe UN common objectives and activities.While each of the UN agencies in Namibia is responsible for the development, oversight andmanagement of its own respective activities, within the framework of each agency’s mandate and
decision process, the site describes the instruments and mechanisms through which the UN System as awhole, in dialogue with the government, civil society associations and donors strives towards theachievement of the two strategic objectives – namely poverty and inequality reduction and HIV/AIDScontainment.Additionally, content about our history in Namibia, historically an overview of the long presence of the UN in Namibia and its support for Namibian independence as far back as 1946, and recent UN activities, will be conveyed here.The site also includes links with the headquarters home page of each agency, thus enlarging the information available and facilitating its access.
UNITED NATIONS RESIDENT COORDINATOR SYSTEM
The Resident Coordinator System (RCS) encompasses all organisations of the United Nations System (UNS) dealing with operational activities for development at country level regardless of their formal presence in the country.
